Description:
"Pete is one of those blokes who was always around the pub, the session, the concert or the buffet with his fiddle in his hand, ready with a joke or a twisted one-liner." (Mike Ruggles- Maldon Folk Festival) His mother is Japanese and his father is a fourth generation, Irish Australian. He spent his early childhood in Japan and gained an appreciation of music from his Japanese grandfather who was a conductor, composer and cello player. At twenty-two he joined a band called the "Ploughboys" playing the fiddle and guitar and he played pubs around Melbourne, six nights out of seven, which was a great experience . Playing with the Ploughboys took him to one of his favourite festivals, Maldon Folk Festival and then to the bigger ones, Port Fairy and the National at Canberra. Having a swag of material under his belt, he toured with other shows, roadtesting a lot of new material. One of these was a ditty called "The Petrol Head Fly". Although he maintains it took about fifteen minutes to write, "The Petrol Head Fly" continues to be one of Denahy's most requested songs. "I don't know what this says about my other material," Pete says, "but I nearly always close my show with 'The Fly'." Pete could very well be the only person in the world who is able to make a claim such as this. "Most recently, Peter has shot to fame for his song "Sort of Dunno Nothin" which typifies an unexciting conversation between a parent and child. The clip on YouTube is being spun around the world and has gained a momentum that has taken even Peter by surprise." - "The Conversation Hour" with Richard Fiedler, ABC Brisbane . The clip has had airplay on Rage, Spicks and Specks, the Today Show, Sunrise and the Morning Show. In 2009 Pete was invited to participate in the Red Faces segment of the Hey Hey It's Saturday Reunion. On it he sang a song he wrote about a dung beetle. "I had been on Red Faces twice before," he says, "and the last time I had come third. On the reunion show I defended my third place with success." Pete is in demand these days for his solo show that showcases his comedy as well his fiddle playing. He is also booked on a regular basis as an MC for a range of events. His MC gigs have included the Herald Sun Animal Entertainment Zone for the duration of the 2009 Royal Melbourne Show, main stage at the Deni Ute Muster two years running with Mike Brady and the big gig in Alice Springs in 2009 for the end of the Australia-wide Variety Bash that included Leo Sayer, Frankie J Holden, John Paul Young and other Oz Rock icons. Pete lives with his wife Allie in the beautiful Victorian town of Yackandandah. Allie has a vintage clothing business in town. Pete and Allie are also the proud owners and carers of a dog, two finches and a fish named Oscar.
