From a shared love of Paul Kelly, The Cure, Ravi Shankar and traditional bluegrass sparked the beginnings of something special - and The Promises were formed. Eighteen months later, having shared the stage with the likes of Carus Thompson, Touch Typist, Jess McAvoy & Leena, The Promises began work on their debut EP. With new members Rob Kidd (bass) and Adam Kelly (drums) the band chose to record at A Pocket Full of Stones, a modest studio in Hawthorn run by Nick Huggins. Perhaps best known for his production work on Whitley’s The Submarine LP in 2007 Huggins had recently finished recording Kid Sam’s stand out debut of 2009. His uncluttered approach to capturing the song was the perfect match for The Promises debut offering – the fruits of which will be released in March 2010. The Promises launch their first single ‘More, Fire’ at Bar 303 on Friday the 5th of December. Their self titled EP will be released in March 2010.
