Melbourne based songstress Teeth and Tongue will release her accomplished debut solo album Monobasic next weekend, and to celebrate will play an album launch at Spectrum in Sydney on Sunday 7 December.
Teeth and Tongue is the solo moniker of Melbourne-via-Wellington artist Jess Cornelius. After fronting Moscow Schoolboy, a band that released two EPs, achieved triple j and community radio airplay, and performed across the country with acts including Augie March, Midnight Juggernauts, Mountains in the Sky and Children Collide, the band met its untimely demise and Jess decided to record her debut solo album Monobasic.
Monobasic is a raw and soulful debut release, swaying eclectically between genres, with Jess whispering delicate sweet-nothings in the track Lightness In My Bones, before jumping to the swampy, rock ballads Hello Ricardo and But Still He Stood His Ground.
Released on November 15 through Crystal Chain/Inertia, Monobasic was produced by Casey Rice (The Dirty Three, Pikelet, Guy Blackman), and features guest performances from some of Melbourne’s most talented musicians, including Joe Talia (City City City, Ned Collette Band), Ian Wadley (Bird Blobs, Minimum Chips), and Ricky French (Actor/Model, Hand Hell).
In a live setting, Teeth and Tongue features a revolving cast of musicians. For the release of Monobasic in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, Jess will be joined by a three piece band featuring Patto Millman (Wicked City) on bass, John Brice on drums, and Brigitte Hart (Hot Little Hands) on keyboard.
Having recently performed with Ned Collette Band in Melbourne, and nearing towards the end of her month-long October residency at The Tote in Melbourne, Teeth and Tongue is ready to launch Monobasic around the country in November and December. Don’t miss her whilst you’ve got the chance - Teeth and Tongue is a woman after your own heart.
