That 1 Guy – The legendary one man band from California returns to OZ to celebrate The Magic pipes’ 10th birthday.
What does one buy for a lump of subsonic aluminium for its special day? How about a complete overhaul!
That's right folks, a brand new version of the instrument fondly known as The Magic Pipe. We’re not talking about a rub, polish & tweak – we’re talking all new high grade aluminium and phosphor bronze, machined by the same machinist responsible for the Phoenix Mars Lander, Mr Danny Price.
What does this mean to Australian Audiences for Yuletide tour? “I can do a whole range of new techniques with this new pipe” states Mike Silverman, That 1 Guy’s Alter Ego. “It’s more refined I have a wider range of sounds and pitch. I can get the whole thing to move in a completely new way. It plays better and It’s been really inspiring”.
Mike finishes up a 3 month tour in his duo, The Frankenstein Brothers. He has coupled with Buckethead – The guitar virtuoso freak with a bucket of KFC on his head. “It’s been crazy, the second I finish this tour I head to Australia again... I cant wait.” explains Mr Silverman.
That 1 Guy was last here in April, launching the Buttmachine single and had the opportunity to perform on Spicks & Specs. “Its been amazing how many people saw it.” explains Mike. “I was on a plane to Las Vegas and this Aussie guy recognised me from Spicks & Specs. It was great. I’d love to be invited back as a panellist some time. It was just so much fun.”
It’s been a huge year for Silverman, with Buttmachine and it’s Australian (Brisbane) Made video being used as the campaign background for the Showtime dark TV comedy Weeds. The video - now over the 100 thousand hits mark on You Tube.
