After more than 4 years playing soul music in Sydney’s inner-city nightclubs, The Soul Mates feat. Mahalia Barnes are bringing their unique soul ‘n’ blues performances to The Sandringham Hotel in Newtown. “Basically it’s soul music — soul music with a lot of blues and some Southern rock & roll” says Mahalia, who confides that their influences range from the classic soul divas like Aretha Franklin to the bluesy rock of the Black Crowes and the neo-soul of Jill Scott and D’Angelo.
