For the first time in Australia, and to mark the launch of the Melbourne International Festival of Brass, trumpet virtuoso Wayne Bergeron - www.waynebergeron.com - joins the 10 piece B# Big Band - www.bsharpbigband.com.au at The Corner Hotel, Richmond, for two explosive sets of swing and big ‘horny’ funk. Over the years, Wayne has been closely involved with hundreds of the world’s top jazz artists, more notably, with the late Maynard Ferguson as well as Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. He is one of the world’s most ‘in demand’ session players, playing with the likes of Michael Buble and Ray Charles as well as bands such as The Mars Volta and The Offspring. His film credits include Superman Returns, Mission Impossible 3 and Mr & Mrs Smith amongst many others and it is Wayne’s trumpet solo that can be heard as the famous theme to the movie ‘Rocky’. He has worked on 300 plus TV & motion picture soundtracks. Wayne is renowned for his powerful sound, high range and overall virtuosity.
The B# Big Band features some of Australia’s highest calibre jazz and session musicians – this combination will result in a rare and exciting one off show that is not to be missed!
Supporting Wayne and The B# Big Band, will be The OzMI Invitational All-Star Big Band. Led by musician and writer, Ross Irwin, this explosive 18 piece Jazz/Afro Cuban orchestra is a dynamic and exuberant ensemble, featuring the best young jazz and commercial players from around Australia. A burning set not to be missed.
Sunday 28th September. Doors at 8pm - support band starts at 8.15pm.
