Description:
This trio plus one line-up introduces listeners to a unique approach to playing jazz standards, employing a surrealist, yet in the tradition, style. Using multiple choice song structures and rhythmic paths, the music has a feeling of new and old, fast and slow, all taking place at once. Influenced for this project by pianists Ran Blake and Ahmad Jamal (particularly his early 70’s period) the group has been performing regularly at café 303 and are planning to record in early August. A trio comprising Ronny Ferella (drums), Tom Lee (acoustic bass) and Carlo Barbaro (tenor saxophone) since 2006, for this performance Morphology are joined by Aaron Choulai on piano and Nord keyboard.
