Description:

“An album seemingly outside of time, eleven songs suffused with a downcast, unadorned beauty that is increasingly rare and incredibly precious.” - Guy Blackman

Every so often a record comes along that helps you find meaning in even the smallest details. Look no further because Melbourne outfit Luluc (pronounced Lou-Luke) will independently release its striking debut album, Dear Hamlyn, on 29 July 2008. The album’s first radio single, ‘Little Suitcase’, is now available as a free download at http://media.lulucmusic.com/.

Presenting the song-writing of singer/guitarist Zoë Randell and musical partner Steve Hassett, Luluc will play three very special album launches along the East Coast in August.

Zoë and Steve met in Edinburgh, Scotland, during festival time and quickly recognised a musical partner in one another. Both have since become prominent locally playing with other songwriters – Zoë sings with Paddy Mann in subdued folk outfit Grand Salvo, while Steve helped establish menacing country outfit Wagons.

A record that at first seems gorgeously simple, but soon reveals profound depths, Dear Hamlyn was written and recorded over more than two years in the converted attic of an old Fitzroy mansion. Having hand picked a selection of their favourite local musicians to play on the album, Luluc favoured the rich, natural tones of antique acoustic guitars, close harmonies, and un-amplified instruments.

Filled with images of departure and sadness, but also with hope for better times ahead, Dear Hamlyn promises to be one of the most remarkable releases of 2008.
