The Gin Club 'Junk' Tour - Round 2
The Gin Club
The Gin Club 'Junk' Tour - Round 2 The Gin Club @ Annandale Hotel
20 Jul 2008
Tour Name:
The Gin Club 'Junk' Tour - Round 2
Date:
Sun 3:00PM to midnight, 20 Jul 2008
Description:
Australia's favourite music collective The Gin Club have just returned from LA's Musexpo Conference and are back on the road with a whole bunch of dates promoting their critically acclaimed new double platter Junk. Fresh from support slots with Youth Group, Dallas Crane and Liam Finn, they'll be joining Band of Horses on their national support tour ,as well as Splendour In The Grass Festival and a bunch of their own shows. Stay tuned to www.myspace.com/theginclub and www.theginclub.com.au for more details as they come to hand.
For those who came in late:
The Gin Club perform an eclectic mix of rock, pop, folk, blues, country, psych, prog, slowcore, and everything in between. On stage the band can feature anywhere from two to nine members playing various combinations of acoustic and electric guitars, organ, piano, cello, banjo, mandolin, saxophone and drums, all shuffling positions and swapping instruments from song to song, making for a unique and sometimes chaotic experience.
Since their formation in 2003 they have toured Australia, performing at Big Day Out, East Coast Blues & Roots, Cockatoo Island and Yagubi Festivals; as well as Canada and New Zealand; played with acts as diverse as Paul Kelly, The Drones, Tim Rogers, Iron & Wine, Lambchop, Midlake and Laura Veirs, and released three albums to critical acclaim, the most recent being double album Junk.
Featuring the work of seven highly individual singer/songwriters, as well as a collaboration with Australian music legend Tim Rogers - Junk is one of the most ambitious and diverse releases by an Australian band in man years. From mariachi horns to sweeping string arrangements to grinding guitars to hushed piano and cello ballads, Junk is truly a magnificent achievement which should propel the band on to the world stage.
Noel Mengel, writing in the Courier Mail, gave Junk 4.5/5, whilst Brisbane’s Time Off and Rave street press magazines have both bestowed 5/5 reviews and album of the week status.
“With this third album, they’ve harnessed all that creative energy and ambition and crafted a recording with all the beauty and terror and inexorable force of rock music at its finest. Don’t miss it. **** ½” (Noel Mengel, Courier Mail Thursday March 6 2008)
