Figaro here. Figaro there. Figaro up, Figaro down!
Dr Bartolo and Count Almaviva are both in love with the ravishing Rosina, but with the help of Signor Figaro, Seville’s crafty cupid and smooth-talking stylist, the Count overcomes all obstacles to capture Rosina’s heart. Rossini’s much-loved romantic comedy is full of sparkling ensembles and playful melodies, like Figaro’s celebrated Largo al factotum.
José Carbó reprises his role as Figaro, with popular soprano Elivira Fatykhova, last seen in Opera Queensland’s Lucia di Lammermoor, as Dr Bartolo’s young ward, Rosina, and Adrian Dwyer as her suitor, Count Almaviva.
This new production, directed by John Milson and created by designer Leon Krasenstein, boasts a kaleidoscopic set inspired by the art deco designs of Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi.
