Description:

At the centre of Abbe May’s charm is an extraordinary voice - a stirring howl borne on the melancholic balladry of a grieving heart. As confrontational as it is vulnerable, her characteristically anguished moan conceals an undercurrent of hot-blooded intensity within the poetry and grunge-fuelled candour of her music and band The Rockin’ Pneumonia.

Abbe May & The Rockin’ Pneumonia’s unadulterated talent does not go unnoticed, winning numerous WAMi Awards –including ‘Best Female Vocalist’ in 2007 and 2008, and ‘Most Promising Act’ in 2008. Abbe May and her rockin’ blues band have been captivating a growing audience and tirelessly amassing a significant repertoire whilst supporting The Drones, Billy Bragg, The Cops, CW Stoneking, The Waifs and Mia Dyson among others. The band’s festival record includes Wave Rock Weekender, Southbound and West Coast Blues and Roots.

In May 2008, the debut album ‘Howl and Moan’ by Abbe May will be released and is set to capture the nation with the same ferocity as her volatile and electrifying live shows. Abbe says,

“Howl and Moan is about passion and grief.. these songs are about howling for the dead and moaning for the beloved.. Howl and Moan is the only way I could put a ghost to rest and exorcise another from my house.”

Recorded over the summer of 2007 and mixed in the autumn of 2008, Abbe May has produced her first great body of work in ‘Howl And Moan’ - an album about immense love and loss, the epitome of unleashed passion, it makes obvious the enormous talent of Abbe May and her band The Rockin’ Pneumonia.

Saw Abbe at Quindanning Pub along with Andrew Winton and Ash Grunwald - it was freezing but I enjoyed her solo act. Simple guitar repeating with insistence and deep meaningful lyrics delivered in a powerful voice. Will definitely seek more.
Brimstone
