2008 marks the 5th biennial ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival, which will tour Australia from the beginning of May until early August. To celebrate this electrifying celebration of dance, visit the official brand new website at www.reeldance.org.au which is being launched today.
A unique event, ReelDance celebrates the fusion of dance and film by showcasing the best contemporary local and international dance shorts and movies, as well as incorporating an exciting range of live programs that invite audience participation, including workshops and forums for dance artists and filmmakers.
The Sydney base for the 2008 Festival will be Carriageworks in Eveleigh, the city’s superb new home for contemporary arts. In Melbourne, the event will span three venues; The Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI), Arts House at the North Melbourne Town Hall and Dancehouse in Carlton North.
This year’s Festival shines the spotlight on how dance, in its many guises, influences and enhances our everyday lives, by offering an eclectic programme that will have even those of us with two ‘left feet’ dreaming of tripping the ‘light fantastic’! Seven distinct screening sessions will form part of the 2008 line-up, which will culminate in the REELDANCE AWARDS for Australian and New Zealand shorts and documentaries to be presented in Sydney on 18th May. Another program highlight will be a touring SWING CLUB that will feature a live band performing amidst projected archival swing dance footage, replete with dancing demonstrations.
The Festival is also delighted to announce that renowned UK dance screen artists, Katrina McPherson and Simon Fildes, will visit Sydney and Melbourne and Campbelltown with their Move-Me.COM Booth – a touring installation which adapts the photo-booth environment, allowing dance enthusiasts to create their own short dance films, which can then be uploaded onto Move-Me.COM’s award-winning website.
