Description:

On April 14, Silhouettic - the first single off the highly anticipated second album from Birds of Tokyo will be released as a free download from www.birdsoftokyo.com(.) Described by Adam Spark (the band’s guitarist and producer) as ‘darker, faster and harder’; the second installment in Birds of Tokyo’s discography is going to leave a few jaws on the floor.

To coincide with the free download release of Silhouettic, from their forthcoming yet to be titled album, Birds of Tokyo are set to embark on the Silhouettic Tour, their first for 2008 this May.

A band that took themselves from being unknown outside their hometown of Perth, to being one of the most popular bands in the country; Birds Of Tokyo have lived up to everything their debut album, Day One promised them to be. After its release in early 2007, Day One spent 36 consecutive weeks in the AIR Charts Top 10 and garnered the band two 2007 WAMi Awards; two 2008 WAMi Awards (of a staggering six nominations); three high-rotation singles on Triple J; iTunes Album Of The Week and two AIR Award nominations.

Fittingly titled, Day One was one of those rare debuts that seemed well beyond the band’s years, a record that felt like an old classic, even from the first time you heard it. Expectations of the follow-up album are high to be sure, but nobody expects more of this band than they do of themselves. If there was pressure on Birds of Tokyo to write a killer second album, then it was self-imposed. The band knew they needed to pull out everything they had if they were going to top Day One.

In addition to Adam Spark returning to the producer’s chair, Birds of Tokyo enlisted the mixing skills of Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam, The Cure) to help give the new record that vital extra push in the right direction. Recorded in the serenity of Western Australia’s south west, yet mixed in the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles; the album reflects both the beauty and tranquility of the environment in which it was started and the intensity and wonderment of where it was finished.

With Silhouettic going online and hitting radio next week, fans will be able to get their first taste of the new record. As an added bonus; Silhouettic will be available as a free download from www.birdsoftokyo.com from Monday 14 April. More of what is to come from the new and somewhat mysteriously darker album will be unveiled during the Silhouettic Tour, where Birds of Tokyo are set to perform some of these songs for the very first time, live.
