Description:
Steve Patterson returns to the Comedy Store (Parramatta and Sydney venues) during April-
May. Following sellout shows on previous tours, and his 2007 nomination for Best Male
Canadian Stand Up, Steve takes to the stage, presented by Comedy Store as part of Cracker
Comedy Festival Sydney.
This international recognition of his craft was a long way from the first time Patterson set foot
on the stand-up comedy stage at the young age of eighteen, on a dare from his university
dorm mates. Patterson continued to pursue comedy, as a part-time enterprise while studying
at university in Business and Media Copywriting. Patterson’s stand up grew stronger, and he
juggled his loves of comedy and his career, and soon his comedy and copywriting careers
converged as he used his stand up skills to inject humour into his copywriting. Then he
injected too much and killed it, ironically fired for using too much humour in an ad for an
amusement park.
Following this immediate shift in his life, Patterson flew in the face of professional debut
modesty, joining Canada’s premiere comedy agency, quickly moving to national headline
status and never slowing from there.
Patterson has a definite skill in doing what most mums would find appropriate, being funny
without being rude. Steve utilised this skill to develop an ‘above the belt comedy’ show for
Toronto Comedy Festival in 1998, himself and a select group of comics performing a 45
minute show containing very little profanity and no “genetalia humour”.
