Description:
Fearless violinist/conductor John Storgårds is renowned for the 'raw, incendiary power’ of his playing. Now, he’ll introduce you to brand new music that’s every bit as exciting as his performances when he guest directs the always edgy ACO.
Here’s your chance to experience music like nothing you’ve heard before. Influential Japanese composer Toshi Ichiyanagi studied with the iconoclastic composer-philosopher John Cage and was married to Yoko Ono. With that pedigree, you’d expect something intriguing and Ichiyanagi delivers with a blend of old and new, east and west. From Lithuania, Juozapaitis concentrates on dazzling colours while the Finnish composer, Hämenniemi, demands that his orchestra does some jazzy improvisation. Lutoslawski and Sibelius may be more familiar but they still offer plenty to tickle the ears. Contemporary music is gripping, strange, unearthly and unpredictable but it’s never dull.
